about me

I'm Rebecca Margel

Born and raised in Ontario, I moved to Calgary in 2011, working in Oil and Gas and volunteering with adults with disabilities. In my first year in Calgary I started rock climbing, completed my first triathlon and ran distances I never thought possible. I pushed my body in ways I never had before, injuring my hip in the process.

What I loved most about physio as a patient was the sense of empowerment I got from learning about my body and being given the tools to make myself better, faster, stronger. Rather than just doing my exercises and calling it a day, I applied to do my Master’s in Physiotherapy and I’ve never looked back.

I love meeting people, I am passionate about empowering them to understand their bodies and giving them the tools to improve their function, mobility, and sport performance. At the end of the day, exercise is medicine. The best feeling in the world is having a patient come back to me for a follow-up appointment and telling me “I did that exercise and I’m starting to feel better” or “my pain is gone” or “I’ve never run that far and felt so good”.

I treat a diversity of people from a spectrum of athletic and cultural backgrounds, of all ages and abilities. From patients with persistent pain, hypermobility disorders, runners of all levels and abilities, and rock climbers, to professional rodeo athletes, professional musicians, and beyond. I use critical thinking to help you prevent injury and rehabilitate your body.

In my spare time I love to hike, run, climb, skate, paddle, bike and swim. On more sedentary days you can find me nerding out with a physio podcast or a good book, or sometimes fifteen episodes into a Netflix binge, because we all have those days. Say hi if you see me at the lake, on the trail or at the crag!

"Rebecca Margel took me on as a short term patient knowing that I live in Vancouver. I had surgery last summer for a broken ankle and I have been going to physiotherapy weekly since I started walking in the fall. Rebecca did a full assessment of my ankle and gave me new exercises to strengthen my foot as well as my hip and glutes. Rebecca is trained in IMS, she located muscles in by back and hip that were causing pain triggered by my injury. I looked forward to these weekly needling sessions! She also prepared an exercise program (videos) that I can follow at home. She is professional, kind and caring. I know with her help and therapy I am much further along in my recovery. I will definitely be returning to see Rebecca on my next visit to Calgary."
